Flooring Service
Warm, quiet floors for the rooms where comfort matters most.
Carpet is still the right answer in bedrooms, family rooms, stairs and finished basements. It is the warmest floor underfoot, by far the best at absorbing sound between storeys, and the safest surface in a house with small children or an older relative. We install carpet across Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon, Union and Mercer Counties.
Most carpet complaints are really padding complaints. Thin, cheap padding lets the carpet flex and the backing break down, and it will void some manufacturer warranties outright. We quote the correct padding for the room rather than the cheapest one that makes an estimate look good, and we power-stretch rather than relying on kick-in.
Installed carpet runs $3 to $8 per square foot here, including carpet, padding and installation. It is the most affordable way to finish a large area. Fibre drives the price: polyester and PET sit at the lower end, nylon costs more and wears markedly better, and wool sits above the range entirely. Stairs cost more per square foot than open rooms because of the labour.
Nylon is the most resilient and the best choice for stairs, hallways and anywhere with real traffic, because it recovers from crushing better than anything else. Polyester is softer and more stain resistant out of the box, and it is excellent value in bedrooms where traffic is light. Triexta sits in between. If a room sees heavy use and you want it to still look right in eight years, pay for nylon.
Padding carries the load that would otherwise break down the carpet backing. For most residential rooms, 8lb density at 7/16 inch is a sensible baseline; thicker is not automatically better, and over-thick padding under a low-pile carpet actually accelerates wear. Many carpet warranties specify a minimum padding spec, and using less voids them.
The old advice that carpet is bad for allergies has softened considerably. Carpet traps particles rather than letting them circulate, which helps if it is vacuumed properly with a HEPA machine and deep-cleaned periodically. If it is not maintained, the reverse is true. For a household with severe allergies we would still steer you toward hard flooring with washable rugs.
Most residential carpet installations are finished in a single day. Whole-house jobs or multiple staircases can run into a second day. Furniture moving is included, and we take the old carpet and padding away with us.
In a normal household, ten to fifteen years is typical. With pets, children and heavy traffic it is closer to seven to ten. Matting that no longer recovers after vacuuming is the honest sign, not staining, which can often be cleaned.
It is the safest choice on stairs, which is why we install a lot of it there. Stairs need a durable fibre and correct padding because they take concentrated wear on the nosing. We wrap treads rather than using cap-and-band unless you specifically prefer that look.
Yes, with the right approach. You need a moisture test on the slab first and padding rated for below-grade use. In basements that have ever taken water we would suggest carpet tiles or luxury vinyl instead, because a soaked broadloom carpet over concrete rarely recovers.
